Viagra ® FAQ's
1. Who Developed Sildenafil Citrate And Why?
Sildenafil Citrate, the key ingredient in Viagra®, was originally developed by Pfizer® as a heart medication. Studies revealed Sildenafil Citrate's ability to improve blood flow by relaxing arteries. During these studies, a considerable increase in blood flow to the male genitals was discovered as well.

2. How Successful Is Viagra?
According to an AP article released on Oct. 27, 1997, Sildenafil Citrate tablets achieved a success rate of 80%. In March of 1998, Sildenafil Citrate was approved by the FDA and marketed in its tablet form by Pfizer®. This was beginning of Viagra®. Men diagnosed with sexual dysfunction performed normally for an average of five to six hours after taking Sildenafil Citrate tablets.

3. How Does Viagra® Work?
When a man is sexually aroused, the arteries in the penis relax and widen, allowing more blood to flow into the penis. As the arteries in the penis expand, the veins that normally carry blood away from the penis become compressed, restricting the blood flow out of the penis. With more blood flowing in and less flowing out, the penis enlarges, resulting in an erection. If the nerves or blood vessels associated with this process aren't working properly, a man may not be able to get an erection. Viagra increases blood flow to the penis, so that when a man is sexually aroused, he can get and keep an erection.

7. What Is The Proper Dosage?
For most men, a half pill is adequate to receive the desired results. You should never take more than one Viagra tablet at any one time and not more than once a day. If you are over 65 years old or have any medical condition such as a serious liver or kidney problem, or are taking protease inhibitors, such as for the treatment of HIV, consult your physician for the proper dosage.

8. Who Shouldn't Use Viagra?
Before you start any treatment, be sure to carefully go through the online questionnaire. If you have any questions please consult your health care provider. If you're a man who uses nitrate drugs, like nitroglycerine, never take Viagra Tablets. The combination of Sildenafil Citrate and nitrates can make your blood pressure suddenly drop to unsafe or life-threatening level. You could get dizzy, faint, or even have a heart attack or stroke. Nitrates are found in many prescription medications that are used to treat angina (chest pain due to heart disease) such as: Nitroglycerin, (tablets that are used orally and designed to be dissolved in the mouth, skin patches, sprays, and ointments), isosorbide mononitrate and isosorbide dinitrate (tablets that are used orally and designed to be dissolved in the mouth) Nitrates are also found in recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers"). If you are not sure if any of your medications contain nitrates, or if you do not understand what nitrates are, ask your health care provider or pharmacist. Do not share your prescription with anyone.

9. Is Age A Factor In The Effectiveness of Viagra?
Age does not seem to be a factor in the effectiveness of Sildenafil Citrate. In fact many men experience erections that are as firm as they were when they were in their teens. The erections last longer and require less stimulation to stay erect because of the increased blood flow.

10. Will Viagra cause an erection?
No. You must first be sexually aroused to get an erection. If you take Viagra and are not sexually stimulated, nothing will happen. If however you are sexually stimulated within the next several hours, your erection will generally be firm and long lasting. When the sexual encounter is over, the erection goes away.

11. Are there any side effects?
Like all medications, Viagra can have some side effects. The most common side effects are headache, facial flushing, sensitivity to light, bluish or blurred vision. In rare cases erection has been known to last more than 4 hours. If this occurs seek medical help immediately. Viagra provides no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
